Apprenticeship Retention Grant

Invest in Howard County’s Workforce Future

Funded by Howard County’s Economic Development Incentive Fund

This grant supports Howard County employers who retain apprentices beyond their first year. Eligible employers can receive $5,000 per apprentice (up to $15,000 per employer) for second-year training and costs for related instruction.

Eligibility

  • To qualify for this program, employers must:
  • Be enrolled in Howard Office of Workforce Development’s Apprenticeship Opportunity Program (AOP)
  • Have a Howard County business location
  • Host apprentice works who in-person, earns at least $16/hour, and is eligible for benefits
  • Retain apprentice for 2 years after completion
  • No youth apprentices
  • Note: Subject to approval and funding availability. Employers must submit annual retention reports; failure to retain apprentice requires repayment.
